New feature integrated into Kinzoo's app
Product designer, design director & Kinzoo CEO
Kinzoo is a family messaging app built on trust, safety, and connection.
I was tasked with designing an in-app experience that introduces personal finance and spending, enabling children to use a prepaid card funded and managed by parents or trusted contacts.
Discovery
Kids need help understanding how to allocate and track money to reach goals.
Parents want tools that educate children about smart spending and saving habits.
Overseeing and managing their children’s money is difficult and time-consuming.
Parents need safeguards for online spending and gradual freedom as kids get older.
The problem: Parents want a safe, educational way to teach their kids about money, helping them budget, track spending, and build financial discipline while maintaining age-appropriate controls.
Buckets is a concept that helps kids learn smart money habits by organizing their funds into goals or categories.
It turns spending and saving into a simple, visual experience that encourages thoughtful choices and goal setting. Parents gain a tool to guide financial learning, offering teachable moments within a safe, family-centered environment.
Solution
Everyday chores are turned into teachable moments. Kids complete tasks, earn money, and learn how their choices shape their goals, while parents gain a simple way to reinforce financial responsibility.
The parent dashboard provides full visibility and control over each child’s spending and progress. Parents can add jobs, create savings buckets, send money, and adjust card settings — all within a safe, easy-to-manage experience that supports their child’s independence.
Outcomes
Kinzoo’s main goal was to test the feasibility of this feature with potential investors and customers before developing it. Initial reactions are already showing it has strong potential.
We conducted user tests with Kinzoo customers where they expressed they would love to try this concept with their kids. Kinzoo has connected with a VP at Mastercard and also has interest from RBC ventures for potential investment.
